In
Beginning with Deepawali and
color-full Deepawali |
This festival will start from Dhanteras on Friday 13 November 2020. The name is
derived from the words "money" (Dhan) and "thirteen" (Teras),
the lunar month day is a celebration. Dedicated to Lakshmi, the Hindu
goddess of wealth and prosperity, this day is specially celebrated. Pray for
blessings for the well-being, success, and well-being of loved ones. Devotees
welcome the deity to their homes by decorating entrances with colorful lanterns
and traditional makeshift designs or rangoli, made using materials such as
rice, lentils, and flowers. Since shopping for something valuable, preferably
gold or silver is considered auspicious on this day, many consider themselves
fine jewelry. Those who cannot offer bhoga, look for inexpensive items like
clothes or decorative items for the house.
The same day of the festival is called Kali Chaudas or Narak Chaturdashi. For some,
the day provides an opportunity to drive away demons or evil spirits from homes
and businesses through traditional rituals. Non-believers celebrate this day as
Chhoti (small) Diwali and use it as an excuse to start the festival with
fireworks and sweets.
The second day, which marks Diwali, is when most there is a big celebration. To get the blessings of the Gods and Goddesses, the Revel begins the
journey to the temple-like place of worship from the morning itself. They then
get together with relatives and friends and exchange gifts and sweets,
especially for the occasion. Even many people look for a shopping spree of
Dhanteras and bargain from head to Diwali. As the sun sets, festival-goers
decorate their homes around the world with gleaming diyas (small oil lamps) and
enjoy delicious traditional foods with their loved ones.
For
the residents of India, the real fun is usually late in the evening. Begins
when entire neighborhoods illuminate the sky with colorful fireworks on the
streets. However, this year's celebrations may be affected to some extent due
to a 2018 Supreme Court ruling that banned the use of traditional fireworks to
reduce air pollution. Instead, the government is urging citizens to use the
newly introduced environmentally friendly fireworks, which reduce emissions by
up to 30%. But given that currently, only three varieties are available, the
Indian skies cannot shine like this Diwali. Folklore of the festival varies
according to region.
Some
believe that Diwali was first celebrated by the residents of the northern Indian city of Ayodhya, to mark the return of their King Rama, his wife Sita, and his brother Laxman after a 14-year-long exile imposed by the king's mother.
Others believe it began in pursuit of the name of a goddess who, through
traditional warfare, was unable to control the demons, triggering a rage that
threatened to destroy not only evil spirits but everyone on Earth Wiped out
the living creature. It came to her senses only after the intervention of her
husband Lord Shiva and stopped. Though the stories are different, they all
celebrate the victory of good over evil!
For
children in India, Diwali is like Christmas. They get a full week off from
school and are treated to gifts, new clothes, amazing food, and, last but not
least, and a large number of fireworks. It is no wonder that the festival ranks
high among the nation's favorite celebrations.
